Lemon Balm is considered as a calming herb and is generally known as Melissa essential oil. The perennial herb is angiosperms and is a member of Lamiacaeae family of Melissa genus. Botanically, Lemon balm is known as Melissa officinialis which is a habitat of Southern Europe. Lemon balm plant grows from 70 cm to 150 cm with green leaves having gentle lemon scent. The plant produces small white flowers which are full of nectar during summers. Essential oil of Lemon balm is extracted through steam distillation of flowering tops, leaves and stems of the plant. Pale yellow colored oil hence obtained constitutes of citrus, light, herbaceous and fresh aroma with middle perfumery notes.
